The 40ft (12m) terrace overlooks the quayside where fishing boats unload their catch, and where unsuspecting motorists get caught out by the high tides. The tides here are the second highest in the world, and when they are at their height the passenger ferry to St Malo docks here as in the picture opposite.

The scene from the terrace is ever changing, with yacht races, cruise liners, divers, and even dog training being observed. The beach itself is a favourite with children, and the daring can jump from the jetty. We could not possibly recommend this for health and safety reasons of course, and anybody who does, does so entirely at their own risk.

There is a variety of terrace furniture, including a classic (and original) patio set. Breakfast and lunch on the terrace are de rigeur. Although it is not shown in the picture, the balustrade now has protective netting fixed to it to stop small children climbing or dropping things.
